Cheyenne’s proximity to interstates 80 and 25 as well as an active business climate have helped contribute to a positive experience for one of the community’s newer companies.

Cheyenne LEADS provided assistance and had been working with company representatives since July 2002 with local contacts and a property search. "We are extremely pleased to see Floyd Sales & Service open in our community," LEADS President Randy Bruns said. "This company has a tremendous 50-year track record in Scottsbluff, Neb., and we’re looking forward to a long relationship here in Cheyenne."

Floyd Sales and Service is a Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star truck dealer, and as the name states, they also provide parts and service.

The company employs 14 people from the Cheyenne/Wyoming area and Mark Gillam, owner, said this number should expand to about 20 as shifts are added.

Floyd Sales and Service opened its doors in 1948 in Scottsbluff, Neb., as a small truck and farm machinery repair shop. The company started by Floyd Gillam now employs approximately 45 people in Scottsbluff and is owned and operated by grandson Mark, who recently purchased his father’s shares in the business.

Gillam emphasized the Cheyenne operation is a separate business and a Wyoming corporation. After purchasing the property and building, the facility was completely remodeled from exterior to interior including doors, windows, electrical, heating and everything in between.

"The experience (opening in Cheyenne) from top to bottom has been really good," he said. "I’m really excited about the business activity in Cheyenne. People have been real receptive and excited about us coming in. We’re looking forward to serving the area."
